Ecology: Territoriality
The helmeted honeyeater is a territorial bird. In order to breed, a pair must establish a territory from which all other birds are aggressively excluded.
At times, other birds will attempt to take over the territory.
If a territory is invaded, then the nest will be neglected and the breeding attempt of the pair will fail.
