Rock Platforms: Intertidal Zone - Tubes of the marine worm, Galeolaria
The worms only emerge when the tubes are covered with water. When retracted, the opening is sealed with a solid lid (operculum).
The anterior end of the animal is black, contrasting with the white tubes; when a wave washes over the rock platform,
the colour of the zone changes from white to black, and back again.
