Rock Platforms: Intertidal Zone - Sea Grapes, Hormosira banksii
The Hormosira thallus is diploid. Haploid gametes are produced by meiosis in the reproductive organs.
As the tide rises, gametes are released into the water where fertilisation occurs.
The zygotes are dispersed in the water, and finally settle on a suitable substrate and develop into either a male or female adult thallus.
