Introduction

Australian vegetation is classified according to its structure, that is, the height of the dominant species, and the amount of shade cast by the overstorey onto the plants below. The vegetation types covered in this tutorial are just a few examples of the many types found on the continent.

In this tutorial we will be looking at the following: forests and woodlands (concentrating on the dominant plants, the eucalypts), heathland, herbfields and grasslands. We will also look at mesophytes and some examples of how Australian plants are pollinated.
