Specialised Roots: Mycorrhizal Types

Ectendomycorrhizae are common within the order Ericales, which includes the heath family Epacridaceae.

Some ectendomycorrhizae have fungal hyphae that penetrate root cortical cells but only form a loose weft of hyphae around the root. Others show a well-developed sheath and hartig net as well as extensive penetration of cortical cells.
