Heathland: Banksia - Fruits and Leaves

This section covers both the vegetative and reproductive organs of the banksia.

You can examine leaves and fruits of a banksia and observe some sclerophyllous features not seen in other parts of this tutorial.

The fruit of banksias are complex and derived from an inflorescence of hundreds of small flowers. The flowers are pollinated by small mammals that feed on the nectar.

Go to menu and select 'Pollination' to see the inflorescences and to see how banksias are pollinated.
