Heathland: Banksia - Leaves

Banksia leaves are usually tough and toothed. Unlike some other sclerophylls banksia leaves are dorsiventral with distinct upper and lower surfaces. They are often smooth on the upper surface, but there is a prominent midrib and vein network on the lower surface. Young banksia leaves are usually covered with hairs. Many adult banksias retain hairs particularly on the lower surface.
