Heathland: Casuarina - Stems
The branch in this photograph is from a female tree.
We know this because this species of she-oak has the male and female reproductive organs (ie. flowers)
on separate trees (dioecious), and this branch is displaying fruit.
This is a shoot of Casuarina glauca (at about half the real size), a tree found in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Despite a superficial resemblance to conifers, casuarinas are actually flowering plants.
