Mangroves: Mangroves Examples - Casuarina Shoot

The primary photosynthetic organ in Casuarina is the cladode, a modified stem. True leaves are reduced to tiny, brown scales.

Casuarinas are sclerophyllous: the surface area to volume ratio of cylindrical cladodes is small, and stomata occur in sunken grooves.

Note the current season's flower (red), the previous year's fruit and the old woody fruits. Casuarinas are dioecious so this must be a female. Think about it.
